Project Pick: Espiral Cement Tile Floor
Colonial Antigua Rust Capuchinas

>> Read Blog Post

Ready for spring? We're headed straight to the beach with this month's project pick. The Espiral cement tile brings in the beach and ocean with cool blues. It also creates a festive and fun floor using a bright red accent. This pattern is the perfect theme for a beach patio or open-air deck. Cement tile is a great material choice for this high-traffic, outside application. The pattern and field tile on this floor are all 10" x 10".

The Artist Series is a unique collection of cement tiles created by artists from the Dominican Republic. Cándido Bidó, a Dominican Republic artist, is the creative force behind the bold Espiral cement tile design used on this open-air patio floor.

Tile Tip:

Use a mix of diagonal and on-the-square tile to provide visual action and interest in the same room. For instance, the shower wall is a grid pattern while the rest of the bath walls are on diagonal. Or, the backsplash on grid and the counter or floor on point.

Hand Painted Antigua Relief Tiles in Green – Design Inspiration

In February, I blogged about how to Create a Spa Bath Experience with Hand Painted Relief Tiles using our Antigua Colonial tiles in Sand. Our project pick for the February Newsletter showcased the Capuchinas relief tile in Rust. Today you can visit an installation that uses the Green glaze. Green happens to be my favorite color and it's a great bath color.

The Colonial Antigua Del Carmen 3" x 6" border and Santa Clara Molding are the trim and decorative tiles shown above. The custom Jade multi-tone glaze on the Geo Vessel and counters tiles is complex, rich and peaceful. These tiles and sinks are created by hand, one at a time, by the same artisans that create the Antigua Colonial Relief Tiles.

New Cuban Tiles with Borders

There's been a lot of buzz about the four new Cuban Heritage cement tile patterns. I've blogged about the bold zigzag pattern in Design 260 and the classic pattern that's not too complicated in Design 240. I'm also really fond of the two new patterns that come with borders. The simple circle pattern of Design 250 comes in some great earth tones and has a more formal, masculine appeal; the stylistic floral patterns in Design 230 have a more playful, feminine flair.

New Cuban Heritage Cement Tile - Design 240

Our January post on New Cuban Heritage Cement Tile Patterns focused on the bold and big zigzag pattern in Design 260. Another favorite of the four new cement tile patterns is Design 240. It's a classic pattern that's not too complicated. It also comes in some great colors to fit your style.

Leaf Imprint Tiles Make the Kitchen Backsplash

If you follow my blog, you know that nothing makes me happier than a tile installation photo from one of our wonderful customers! I received an email last Tuesday from some great folks in Council Bluffs, Iowa and it included three photos.

The email started like this:

Hello! Just wanted to forward some pictures of our new backsplash with the accent tiles ordered from your company. We love how they turned out! Thank you very much!

I'm honored when a customer takes the time to send me a picture. I know the customer was looking for something special and found it at Avente Tile. Then, they worked through the design and installation issues. The project is finally complete and they are thrilled with the results!

The customer choose three tiles from our Leaf Imprint collection to work with their own field tile. The customer chose tiles based on trees they had growing in their backyard. Now that's a perfect way to personalize your home.

Here's the tiles they chose:

"We've gotten many compliments on the tiles. They are all trees we have growing in our yard, so it makes it personal as well as beautiful."

When it comes to decorative tiles, one of my mantras (and blog posts) is that with Deco Tiles: A Dab Will Often Do! Our friends in Iowa demonstrated how a few hand painted decorative tiles create an impact. Also, in this collection, leaf colors can be customized and the artist will even create a design based on a leaf you provide.

What a beautiful backsplash! Don't you agree? And, to my friends in Council Bluffs, Iowa, thanks for sharing your vision with all of us! You made my day.
